The Hansen Engineering story began way back in 1977 when John Hansen started the company at its current premises.
John served his apprenticeship as a coppersmith where he learned and honed many skills in the trade. As time moved on and new materials and methods come into play, the company John worked for diversified into steel, aluminium and stainless steel as well as keeping the core coppersmith work. John enrolled himself back into Sydney Technical College to learn the art of what was then known as boilermaking.
John completed his boilermaking apprenticeship and stayed at the company for many years before moving on to many different fabricating engineer companies where he mostly spent his time as a foreman.
In 1977 the opportunity presented itself for John to start up a business of his own.
A brand new factory with a large yard area became available for rent on Sydney’s Northern Beaches at Terrey Hills. John hired a number of ex workmates and many of the companies he worked for prior to starting out for himself began funnelling excess work John’s way knowing his eye for detail and master craftsmanship would serve them well.
In 1983, John’s son Kirk who would love to spend school holidays helping Dad in the workshop left school at age 15 to join the team and start his 1st year apprenticeship as a boilermaker. Kirk was eager to learn every aspect of his father’s wealth of knowledge and experience.
As the years went by Hansen Engineering’s work varied from heavy pipework for chilled water, pipework for the fire protection industry, air filtration units and products to general fabrications.
In 1998 Kirk took over the management of Hansen Engineering while John stayed on as a very active member of the team. Kirk could see an area to expand with the structural steel in the residential housing market and began learning CAD to assist with workshop drawings.
After meeting a number of local builders, very soon Hansen Engineering was fabricating columns and beams and all sorts of associated items to support builders and their clients.
Hansen Engineering enjoys working closely with their clients, builders engineers and architects to achieve a seamless job on time every time.
